Cookies as favors, anyone?

Panda Cookies. Copyright: JessiCakes Project
Aside from cakes, cake pops, and cupcakes, we love to make cookies. Cookies, just like cake pops, are versatile. They can be your favors, too. Whatever the occasion may be, we can make them to fit the theme.

We recently created several cookies for favors. Some are for weddings, tea parties, Christening, and baby showers.

Check out our Cookies page for more choices.

Betty Boop Fondant Cake - Claire's 5th Month Cake - 02/18/12

In the month  of February, we made a cake for our littlest family member Claire. Once again, Claire's mom found the character and sent us photos for inspiration. We put our own twist to create a version that's unique. Since it's the love month and we're donating proceeds to American Heart Association this month, it is but fitting to make a cake that celebrates love. This cake is a double layered cookies and cream cake with cream cheese filling. All decorations are edible, including Bettty Boop.

Betty Boop is a beloved character that doesn't age. She's lovable and sexy. Portraying her in a fondant for baby Claire's 5th month cake is such a delight. There aren't many tutorial on making her figure, so we have decided to make our own. Please check our Tutorials page for the link on how we made this lovable character.

We made Betty Boop in a combination of gumpaste and fondant. We used fondant for the hair and dress. The cake has a checkerboard pattern with hearts wired to serve as backdrop for Betty Boop.

Time Flies When You're Having Fun!

Hi everyone, Jessica here. It's been a while since we posted a blog. It has been a very busy February...and, so far...March is turning out to be our busiest month ever.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support. You don't know how happy you have made me. I think we are surpassing our goals and would be posting our donations made to the charities that I support. January is for ACS, February is for AHA, and March is for ADA.

I'm also going through some life-changing decisions right now. Aside from the daily responsibilities in the last few months of my high school senior year, JessiCakes Project, community, and church activities, I have been busy touring and applying to colleges and universities. It's been a very exciting journey for me and my parents. I'm happy to say also that out of 5 colleges that I have applied to, 3 of them already accepted me, the other remaining two universities are due to respond by end of March or early April. I am so overwhelmed with the kind words and congratulatory messages that people had been posting on my mom's Facebook wall. Some people sent me private messages since we're not FB friends, but I assure you that I got each one of them.

I did say busy several times haven't I? But, I have to say it again...BUSY...busy...busy...lol. Anyway, it's okay because time flies when you're having fun. I'm having fun.

In the following days, I will be switching gears. I need to mull over which school to choose. It's hard since I love them all. That's why I only chose to apply to 5 schools as opposed to the average number of schools ranging from 8 to 15...imagine how exhausting that would be!

I chose these five schools because I see that I can fit in and they share the same ideals of giving back to the community.Wish me luck you guys! I need it.

OK, I better stop blogging for now. I still have some cake pops to make that are due for delivery today.

Take care y'all...have a happy and enjoyable day!

:) <3 - Jessica

JessiCakes Project Donations for Each Month

Since its inception, JessiCakes Project has been donating majority of its profits to different charities. Last year, we allocated donations depending on the current events. For example, we donated to Susan G Komen for the Cure in the month of October since it was Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We also donated to Red Cross after a tsunami/earthquake hit Japan, and, most recently, after the catastrophic typhoon aftermath that hit  Cagayan de Oro, a city in the Philippines. There were times when we subdivided earnings to benefit different charities each month.

This year, we have decided to try a different approach. Since there are a dozen charities that we support, we will allocate earnings to benefit one charity each month. If ever there's any emergencies, such as calamities, we will donate to benefit to benefit the victims as well aside to just donating to the charity of the month. We'll be doing a shout out to our customers and fans on our Facebook fan page. We hope that with this new system, we can track who we donate to each month better than last year.

We started off with the American Cancer Society for the month of January, which will be followed by the American Heart Association in February.

We'll keep our blog and Facebook fan page updated with the upcoming schedule as we do additional research as to which charity to donate to for each month.

Thanks to our valued customers for patronizing our products in order to help make this world a better place, one baked goody at a time!

Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse Silhoutte Anniversary Cake - 012812

When we were first approached by the husband about an anniversary cake that he is presenting to his wife as a surprise 4th anniversary gift, he did not know where to start. At first, we gave him suggestions and we had planned something to surprise them both. However, five days prior to the delivery date, he sent us a private message on Facebook with a photo inspiration attached. The photo was a 2-tier round cake in white, black and red color scheme with the topper of printed Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse cartoon (not sure if it was printed on edible sheet using edible ink). It depicts the couple with their backs facing the front as they watched the sunset while sitting on a wooden bench.

It was a brilliant idea, which we used as inspiration to create something with our own personal twist. As  you know, even when we're asked to copy anything out there, we do not just copy or mimic exactly what's shown on the picture, but we make it a little different with our own personal touch.

The cake is made of double layered 8-inch round cinnamon swirls cake with cream cheese buttercream. He also ordered cookies and cream cupcakes and cake pops (chocolate and peanut butter candy melts) to go along with it. It's a cake/cupcake.cake pop tower.

We apologize for the sloppy result on the cupcake frosting. We made the cookies and cream cupcakes and frosted with cream cheese buttercream decorated with a couple of small oreo cookies to look like mouse's ears; however, the frosting was too hard we had to make amendments, but by the time we finished frosting, the frosting liquefied. It was still delicious, just not that appealing.

We also made silhoutte Mickey and Minnie Cake Pops all in cookies and cream. The Mickey Mouse cake pops were coated in black dark cholocate melts while the Minnie Mouse cake pops were coated with a combination of vanilla and peanut butter candy melts. We used a pair of white sprinkle hearts for the bows.

In the end, the wife was pleasantly surprised and the husband was happy with the outcome.
