Despicable Me Minions Cake - 011512

This Despicable Me Minion cake is an interpretation of baby Claire's mom's idea. As some of you already know, we make Claire's (our newest family member) monthly cake. This cake is a 2-layer rectangular red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. It features another tier of 6-inch, 2-layer chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream. The theme of this cake is Despicable Me, with the two minions (one-eyed and two-eyed) as the stars. All decorations are made of marshmallow fondant. The small cake on top is decorated as a cake, which shows the two-eyed minion protruding from the cake and about to grab a cupcake. The one-eyed minion poses next to the bottom of the cake. We had so much fun making this cake! This is one of our favorites, too. :)

Super Mario Cake - 011512

This Super Mario cake is for a boy who turned 9 years old. It's a small ( 6-inch 3 layers)cake made of chocolate with vanilla buttercream filling and crumbcoat. The cake is covered with marshmallow fondand decorated with Super Mario theme made of fondant. The figure of Super Mario stands 6 inches tall and is made of mixed fondant and gum paste. The mushrooms are fondant with gum paste. We used gum paste and add it to fondant when making figures to help in the drying process. We also use fondant stabilizers to make sure that the fondant behaves like gum paste.

Charlie Brown and Snoopy Cake Pops - 011512

Say hello to Charlie Brown and Snoopy cake pops. Fifty pieces total (25 of each), were ordered for a boy who turned 9. He's going to give them to his friends and classmates. The Charlie Brown cake pops were made of red velvet cake and the Snoopy cake pops were made of chocolate cake.We had to improvise to give Charlie Brown a skin tone color by mixing vanilla morsels with a few chocolate morsels. We were satisfied with the result!

A few photos from the Peanuts website were printed so that we can capture the facial expressions of these two lovable characters. Next time, we'll make all the Peanuts characters to have the whole gang together!

If interested in ordering, just email us at JessiCakes.Project@gmail.com (remember to put a dot between Jessicakes and Project).

Insects Cake Pops - 011312

Adorable "cartoony" insects with cute faces that come in rainbow colors were ordered by a mom who is hosting a birthday celebration for two kids-- one girl who was turning 4 and a boy who was turning 5. The mom was full of ideas and was more than happy to send us photos of cake pops of insects she wanted us to do. This project was a collaboration between her and JessiCakes Project. As usual, we do not copy exactly what are on the photos. We add our own personal touch and put our own spin on things so that they will not be just a copy of what's out there. If we just copy, where's the fun in that, right?

So, the insects chosen were bees, ladybugs, snails, and butterflies. We suggested butterfly cake pops, since she chose the first three and almost chose caterpillars and prior to that -- spiders! She thought the spiders were a bit Halloweenish, and we agree (If she really liked spiders, we would have made them less ghoulish!). She thought of caterpillars, but decided that it may be too boyish to add them...so we suggested butterflies instead. The good thing about the butterflies, we were able to incorporate the caterpillars since butterflies come from-- you guessed it--- caterpillars! So, they got a two-in-one cake pop.

The butterflies are completely our original idea. We've never seen them on the Internet before and we doubt there's anyone like them. The idea was from Jessica, our founder, who made sure we also add a cartoony face since originally we were only doing plain wings. So, adding the face and body of the caterpillar brought these beautiful butterflies to life!

Enjoy the photos!

Monster High Cake Pops are HOT!!! 010312 and 011412

Well, well...well. Our very first order fulfilled for 2012 is none other than Monster High theme cake pops. It's amazing as to how much kids love this theme. It's no wonder because they're sooo adorable! Even before 2011 ended, we already received four inquiries about Monster High cake pops! To date, we have already fulfilled  two orders (one shipped to Union City, CA and the other Braintree, MA) while the rest will be delivered the next few days and weeks to come. To all of you who are interested, email us at JessiCakes.Project@gmail.com (don't forget the dot between jessicakes and project).

Here are photos of the Monster High cake pops we recently fulfilled. We experimented on a new look for the ones we shipped to Union City, CA. We made the cake pops skullier (if that's even a word...lol) rather than looking more like an alien (the older version). The feedback was great from the customer. However, some prefer the other one, so the next orders mimic the older style. Hey, whichever makes people happy we'll do it! Check them out and you be the judge.

Petit Fours for New Year's Eve

For our family's New Year's celebration, we've decided to bring petit fours instead of the usual, cake, cake pops, and cupcakes. We were planning on making cookies too, but we just got too busy that we did not get the chance to. However, these petit fours were so scrumptious and moist that they were gone, gone, gone...even before the stroke of midnight.

These were made of dark chocolate cake with melted chocolate (Guittard) as base. We used vanilla frosting for the white ones and strawberry coulis for the mauve ones. We used fondant decorations and edible pen to write 2012. We also added gold and silver dusts to make them sparkly.

Captain America and Green Lantern Cake Pops

We made these cake pops a few months ago, but forgot to blog about them. These cake pops were sent to a boy who love Marvel super heroes.

We used colored candy melts to coat the round cake balls and we added fondant made from marshmallows for the decorations. The Captain America theme cake pops showed his shield with the red, white and blue color with a star at the center while the green lantern had the logo. We used black instead of green for the logo for deeper contrast. Next time, we will use a deeper shade of green, after all he is green lantern..

Happy 1st Anniversary JessiCakes Project! -1/4/2012

Today, we're celebrating our first year of baking. Although, the name JessiCakes Project did not come until weeks later, the establishment of our baking for a cause had started long before the name was finalized. So, it's but fitting to celebrate our first year anniversary today, the day when all the magic in our humble kitchen started happening.

We'd like to thank everyone who were instrumental in one way or another in helping us raise funds to donate to our favorite charities. As of this post, we have raised and donated a total of $2,225. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts!
