Say it with Cupcakes! - 12/28-12/31/2011

Whether they come in big or small packages, cupcakes make great gifts. They can bring out a smile and satisfy cravings. They're a perfect gift for a sweet tooth; however, you can also give sugar-free and non-dessert types of cupcakes, too! They come in three different sizes-- mini, standard, and jumbo.

Here are some tips in giving a gift of cupcakes:

  1. Know the recipient's preference. Check what flavors they go for when they eat desserts. For example, chocolate cupcakes are ideal for chocoholics.
  2. Know the recipient's dietary restrictions. Some people cannot eat cupcakes made from wheat flour so give them gluten-free cupcakes instead. For diabetics, sugar-free cupcakes will work well. Other choices include, organic, vegan, low-carb, and low-fat cupcakes. Check with the sellers to find what would work best.
  3. Add decorations to your cupcakes to make them more special. Fondant decorations will look lovely on any cupcake; however, make sure you still have a generous layer of frosting underneath. There are people who don't like eating fondants, so use sprinkles and other decorations that they would eat.
  4. Choose the right size of box for your cupcakes. Cupcake boxes come in different sizes, forms, and shapes. If you know the recipient's favorite color, use it to make it more personal.
  5. Add a message-- a gift tag, greeting card or a note placed in an envelope to accompany your cupcake gifts. You can also work with the bakeshop to add cutout letters or pipe messages on top of the cupcakes.
  6. Embellish the cupcake boxes with bows or ribbons to make them more presentable.

Here are some photos of cupcakes given as gifts during the holidays. Keep in mind, they are a perfect gift not only during the holidays, but on any occasion, too. So, what are you waiting for? Say it with cupcakes!

A great way for gifting to multiple recipients is to pack different flavors of cupcakes inside beautiful cupcake boxes. These boxes shown here have a viewing "window" top so the recipient can see the beautifully decorated cupcakes. When participating in a potluck, cupcakes placed in a 12-cupcakes box can be served right away without the need for a display tray or tower. Decorate cupcakes to make them more appealing to look at and to eat. For example, instead of just plain frosting, we added wafer chocolate in the middle and added three chocolate mini morsels on these mocha cupcakes. Copyright: JessiCakes Project

Boxing Theme Fondant Cake - 12/23/11

The wife of a boxing aficionado ordered this boxing theme cake for her hubby, who also happens to be a Pacquaio fan. The figure is made of fondant mixed with gum paste. The robe is made of gum paste with fondant letters and details. The shoes and gloves are made of fondant.

The cake is a 10"-inch square 3-layers of red velvet cake with cream cheese buttercream filling and crumbcoat, which is then covered in rolled marshmallow fondant. It is designed as a boxing ring. The decorations on the ring are made of edible prints on wafer paper. This is our first time to use our Canon edible printer.

The four posts are made of fondant mixed with gum paste with skewers inserted to use as "ropes". If we had the time, we would have dyed the sticks with food color, but we did not have. We were going to use yarn, but it did not work out. The skewers gave a straighter and clean finish. It's also food safe.

Another Hello Kitty Theme Cake - 12/17/11

We'll never get tired of making a Hello Kitty cake, so we were ecstatic to get another order. This 2-layer 9-inch round cake is made of yellow cake with Nutella buttercream filling covered in marshmallow fondant in mauve color. The colors were chosen to bring a burst of sunshine on a dreary wintery day.

Cupcakes in nutella, red velvet, and cookies and cream were also ordered.  Happy 2nd birthday LayLay!

Minnie Mouse Themed Cake - 12/16/11

A 3rd month birthday cake for baby Claire. This one was a lot of fun to make. The mom chose the design by sending us a photo she found on the Internet. We just put our spin on it, to make it more personal.

The 9-inch round cake consisted of 3 layers of dark chocolate with chocolate mousse filling covered in strawberry marshmallow fondant. All decorations are edible, except for what's beneath the Minnie Mouse hat, which is made of Styrofoam.

Happy 3rd month Claire. Can't wait to make your 4th month cake. :)

Here are some photos with Claire and her parents along with her cousins.

Legends All-Stars Cake Pops and Cookies

On 11/12/11, we made about 4 dozens cake pops for the Legends All-Stars Cheerleaders, then on 12/3/11, we made about 76 sugar cookies. The cake pops were simple, basic round sprinkled with sanding sugars in the theme's colors. However, the cookies took hours of painstakingly cutting by hand the logo. In the end, we were happy with the results. Next time, we will use edible printer to print the logos on rice or wafer paper. We finally received the Epson edible printer and inks in the mail after this order. We're so excited to use them on our upcoming projects!
