A Tale of Two Hello Kitty Cakes

Last weekend was a pretty exciting week for us here at JessiCakes Project. Why?...you may ask. Well, we had an opportunity to create two Hello Kitty cakes for two very special little girls each celebrating a special milestone. One cake was for a little girl's christening on 10/15 (Saturday) and the other was for a first month birthday on 10/16 (Sunday).

Both moms of the girls were fans of Hello Kitty. Who can blame them? Hello Kitty is so adorable!

We prepared the figures days ahead to allow them to dry. They're both edible, made of marshmallow fondant.

Although these two Hello Kitty cakes certainly weren't our first Hello Kitty fondant cake, they hold a very special place in our hearts. Besides, who can get tired of Hello Kitty anyway?

Here are their stories...

Hello Kitty for Caleigh's Christening

The Hello Kitty christening cake was created with colors of hot pink, pistachio green and a touch of silver on a white rolled fondant base covering the cake. The cake was 2 layers of red velvet with cream cheese/buttercream frosting. We filled the cake with flowers and placed a sitting Hello Kitty in the middle. The letters of the first name of the girl were made on top of a flower-shaped background in hot pink. Each letter was done in white and  each one decorated with a pistachio green flower. The cake board was covered in silver foil to match the silver foil used on the cupcakes. It was bordered with a ribbon with hot pink hearts and pistachio green leaves.

The Hello Kitty figure wore a hot pink outfit with a pistachio green bow. Sitting, it measures about 4 inches tall.

To feed approximately 60 guests, we also made 50 pieces of cupcakes-- 20 pieces red velvet, 20 pieces cookies and cream and 10 pieces banana. All cupcakes frosted with cream/cheese buttercream in hot pink (for red velvet), pistachio green (for cookies and cream) and white (for banana). We created marshmallow fondant toppers to complement each color of frosting, but created contrast on the pink and green. We used white on white on banana, but made impression of Hello Kitty's face on them for texture and personality.

The entire set up was displayed on a beautiful acrylic glass cupcake stand provided by the client.

Hello Kitty for Claire's First Month Birthday

The second Hello Kitty is for a smaller and intimate occasion for one of our very own. Claire is the newest addition to the Borlongan family. Her parents wanted to celebrate each month with a cake, so we were more than happy to oblige.

The cake was a 2-layer 9-inch round chocolate cake filled with toffee buttercream with chocolate chips, frosted with cream cheese and covered with strawberry flavored rolled pink marshmallow fondant. We had so much fun making the decorations. We made two bumblebees, 1 ladybug, 1 purple butterfly, white and purple flowers. The light green grass on the front of the cake were added in a 3D style, as if they were being blown by the wind.

A standing Hello Kitty was placed at the center, as if she was walking in the field or forest. She wore a purple dress and a pink bow.

We used our very own ceramic white stand decorated with pink ribbon to display the cake. The white cake board was finished with a think silk hot pink ribbon to contrast with the purple, but complemented the pink ribbon on the stand.

Princess Themed Cake Pops/Cupcake Tower

Last Saturday, we delivered this wonderful cake pops/cupcake tower for an adorable little princess. We created the stand out of Styrofoam, which we decorated in princess theme using felt paper. We had such a blast creating this project.  As we walked in to set it up at Chuck E Cheese, we were greeted with lots of ooohs and ahhhs from adults and children alike. We felt like Rock Stars! Luckily, we survived the walk without crashing or stumbling on anything since the venue was packed and we had to go all the way to the end. In the end, the client, her family and guests were satisfied. After it was set up, the little princess came to see it. Her reaction was priceless! Here are some of the photos.
